March 14-20 Empty Re: March 14-20

Post by LittleDancer Thu Mar 19, 2015 4:19 pm

So, sorry if this weeks story of mine sucked. I tried and hopefully its somewhat readable XD Anyways read on Razz
MY CHALLENGE THIS WEEK WAS:As a child, you and your best friend made a pact to go on an real fantasy adventure. After growing up, starting your separate lives and families, and losing touch, one day he/she bursts into your office, throwing you a sword and insists you accompany them.

The wood was a magical place, the birds were always singing and the brook was constantly bubbling. It was just the sort of place someone could lose themselves. This was precisely what Chelsea Burnam was doing as she stumbled blindly into the small grove of trees with springy moss squishing under her sneakers. She sat down on a rock beside the brook and let loose her tears. After her cry she looked at her surroundings as she wiped her cheeks free from the tears, she realized she was very thirsty and her head hurt.

“Chess?” A voice asked appearing from the trees behind her.

“Ave’s!” she replied, happy that her friend had found her.

“She’s hurt you again hasn’t she?” he asked sadly, she nodded solemnly. He brushed her cheek and she flinched back covering her hand over her cheek instinctively.

“You know what?” He asked.

“What?”

“One day I am going to take you all away from this."

“Really? How?”

“We are going to go on an adventure! Just the two of us, travelling in our the countries we make up!” He said, brightening at his own idea.

“We can do that?!” She asked excitedly, forgetting the purple bruise on her cheek.

“Sure we can! We can do anything we wish to!” He said half believing himself.

xX***Xx

The day was quiet and sunny, it was a normal Wednesday morning in the office and it was buzzing about like a hive of bees, everyone going about their own work. I was in my office, as CEO of the company I got my own office with air conditioning. My secretary walked in the office carrying her clip board and coffee.

“There is someone here to see you Mr. Davies” She said nonchalantly and walked out of the office sipping her coffee. I saw a figure outside carrying a large satchel. I signaled the person in.

“Hello Avis” The girl said.

“CHELSEA!” He shouted a little too loudly. She smiled triumphantly at him and put her satchel on the ground.

“How have you been, how’s life?” He asked, coming out from behind his desk.

“No time to talk now, we have work to do” She said smirking at him.

“Work to do? What do you mean?” He asked confused. She reached into her satchel and pulled out a package, she tossed it to him and he lowered his hands as he felt the weight of the package.

“Remember what you said to me that day about going on an adventure in a magical world?” She asked.

“Yes, bu- I- We- We were just kids” He sputtered out as he unwrapped the package that was crudely wrapped in cloth. Inside was a sword, not a normal sword but a medieval jewel encrusted sword as heavy as a block of solid silver.

“What the heck Chess?”

“We are going on an adventure” She said sticking her tongue out.

“Right now?” He asked, looking down at his new suit.

“Yup. Right. Now. Come on we have work to do!” She said putting the swords back into her satchel and grabbing his wrist and dragging him out of the office.

xX***Xx

After she had dragged him out of his office she led him to the same part of the wood that they used to play in when they were kids, it brought back many memories, but she lead him past the grove of trees with hardly a glance. Farther into the wood where it was darker and more gloomy she led him into a cave under a tree. He tried to ask question about everything but she shut him up, she said there wasn’t enough time and that the portal would be closing any minute. The portal was an amazing sight in itself, it glowed bright purple against the dark shades of the cave. She stepped forward into the portal and dragged him with her.

Getting onto a dragon hardly even surprised him after swirling through a magical portal that led them to a different world. The dragon wasn’t fazed by them and Chelsea seemed to be speaking with it somehow. She signaled for him to get on, but getting onto a dragon’s back was much harder then it looked. After a few minutes of struggling he managed to sit upon the dragons back. Chelsea patted his neck and his wings brushed out and led them into the air.

The whole of this new country spread out before them as the dragon moved higher in the sky, bellowing in the wind. Chelsea laughed in the wind and Avis eventually joined her.

“You ready for this?” She asked still laughing.

“No!” He yelled, as the dragon nosedived straight downward.

March 14-20 Empty The Message

Post by Melody Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:43 pm

Note: I didn't get this story done in time, so it doesn't have an ending xD Sorry haha

“After waking up in your home at 3:54am to a warning, you do what it specifically tells you not to.”

Beep, Beep, Beep.
I awake reluctantly from a deep sleep to the obnoxious sound my alarm is making. Fumbling, my hand inebriated from a lack of sleep, I find the off switch. The beeping continues for another second, then ceases completely.
The room is dark. Shadowy shapes dance across my floor like some otherworldly thing, cast there by the moonlight drifting through the curtains of my open window. Warm summer air kisses my bare skin as I pull off the blankets. Something is not right. It should not be dark.
I glance down at the clock. It is 3:54 am. The alarm should not have gone off for at least another four hours. The beeping sound suddenly starts up again. My alarm sits as peaceful as ever—it is not making the horrible racket. The moonlight provides enough light to see by. I walk across the room to where my phone is located on top of the dresser. I quickly slide the lock screen.
I have a new message.
A recording plays automatically. Its robotic voice and the fact that I did not allow it to play worry me.
“Alisha Cartwright,” it begins.
How do they know my name?
“Listen well—your life depends on it. Do not turn on your lights, do not call anyone. You must leave now. Do not pack any bags—there is no time to lose. You must go to the old marina on main avenue. Wait there.”
I half expect it to add “do not pass go”, but the message disappears, leaving no sign that it had ever been.
I glance over at the clock again. Could it have been a dream? What could it have to do with me, a high-school English teacher just out of school herself?
Another thought enters my mind. Could that message have been meant for anther Alisha Cartwright?
I sit down on the edge of my bed. The pink frills of the comforter are soft to the touch. A gust of cool air blows through my window—I pull my nightgown close.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved adventure. Not that I have had many, but I have always loved reading about them. This message could have been a prank, and it probably was. But something in me can't not leave it at that. I have to find out.
I turn on my light, ignoring that part of the message. The moon is bright, almost full, but not that bright. My closet would otherwise be a dark abyss. I select black pants and a dark sweater. In this heat I know they will be stifling, but at least it will provide me with some camouflage.

I climb into my car. The marina is at least a mile from my house, laying just a little outside of the town. I start turn the key, and suddenly a chill runs through me. Even the hot air cannot ease the goosebumps I now feel. Images of cars exploding, as I have seen so many times on TV, flood my mind. I hesitate to finish turning the ignition.
It's all in your mind, I tell myself.
Biting my bottom lip, I start the car. The familiar, comforting sound of the motor starting normally meets my ears. I exhale the breath I was unknowingly holding. Shifting it into gear, I edged out of the driveway.
Boom!
I slam my foot against break petal. Red hot flame fills my rearview mirror. Pieces of shrapnel and other debris fly past the car. My house—the building I was in only moments prior—has been reduced to a smoldering pile of ash. My heart begins beating so rapidly I think I may have to lie down.
I have either been mistaken as someone else, or someone is really trying to kill me. Either way, I'm in trouble. Big trouble.
Should I go to the marina? It could be a trap. The message did try to warn me, though. I decide it might be my only chance to find out what in the heck is going on.
I can hear sirens in the distance as I fly down the road. Life as I knew it is now gone.

March 14-20 Empty Re: March 14-20

Post by Wlonnie Fri Mar 20, 2015 4:57 pm

Author's Note: Unfortunately, none of you (besides Taria) will understand this story. It's part of a series I'm doing about my friends. I've named it A Fun Story, and it is located on my Tumblr writing page. It chronicles inside jokes, collective group interests, and other fun things!
Also, I realize that I did not follow this idea to its full extent. I had started a story about a cyborg who wore black lace and took a darkened interest in destroying people with puns... but that didn't work out. Oh well. Sorry to leave you guys with a relatively boring story for my last week. Razz If you'd like to continue reading my work, I'd be more than happy to give out the address for my writing blog. HAPPY TRAILS, KOTP-NATION!

PROMPT: Humanity has developed a hypersensitivity to puns, experiencing physical pain when exposed to especially bad wordplays. As no physical damage happens, it is used to penalize petty criminals. This is your job. You are the Punisher.

A Fun Story - Chapter Sixteen

RUSSIAN SPY
Bedmas's house was closed off and silent. Surrounded by a myriad of green-leafed trees and hyacinth flowers, it seemed completely irrational to me that a master of evil could live in such a tranquil place. Oranj and I had taken a taxi as far as outer Vancouver - a region I was unfamiliar with, especially since it was far less developed in the 1950's - before walking a few blocks to find the house we were now only meters away from.
"It's kind of creepy, right?" Oranj spoke up. I glanced at him, and he continued, "You know. I mean, we've been following some guy who's probably been dead for decades in our time. We're kind of like ghost hunters when you think about it."
An odd realization, but as I pondered the thought myself, I realized that Oranj had a good point. If all went according to plan, this entire mission would end up as a ghostly knick in the fabric of time. BPOS would have never begun their evil tirade, the Core itself would be altered immensely, Navid would have never been lost . . .
The rustling of branches pulled me out from the depths of my imagination. A wayward glance exchanged with Oranj confirmed my suspicion that we weren't the only ones here. I bent down to my knees and peeked through a hole in the fence we were hiding behind. Someone was walking out of Bedmas's house. A breath hitched in my chest, threatening to make me explode. Finally, I was able to catch a glimpse of the suspect. To my surprise, it wasn't Bedmas leaving his house; it was a woman. She had pale ivory skin that seemed almost translucent in sunlight, and was donned in a daring blue miniskirt paired with a flowing long-sleeved top that had been tucked into the skirt just enough to give it a gypsy-like appearance. Her hair was piled atop her head in a half-updo; some lazy prod at fashion that was just enough to make her seem like a goddess. A potential lover of Bedmas's, perhaps?
"Russian Spy, look!" Oranj's voice jolted my attention away from the woman. He was pointing at the road, a fair distance down from where we were hidden in the garden of Bedmas's neighbor. A dull-coloured taxi had parked a few houses down the road - a different taxi than the one we'd taken to get here ourselves. As the passenger doors opened, a group of people came flooding from the inside. A mixture of emotions shot down my spine when I saw who they were. Jubses, Wlonnie, the Eye, Han, Paigey, Gen, and Wise Girl.
"How did they all fit inside that tiny taxi?" Oranj muttered to himself.
Personally, I had been a little more focused on the fact that they were in danger. The fancy lady from Bedmas's house was eyeballing them, some unwritten emotion dancing on her face. Suddenly her chest tightened. Her pale skin turned a deathly white, and she marched back into the house like a gladiator on games day.
"They're in trouble," I said. "Come on, Oranj! Bedmas knows they're here. We'd better make this fight worthwhile."

JUBSES

After madly anticipating a face-off with Bedmas and his evil BPOS operations, it was kind of depressing to get to the point and realize that Bedmas was so totally outmanned and outgunned by a group of teenagers. Seriously, it was a sad case. The Eye, Han, and Paigey had leapt though the door with weapons of steel, ready to fight. Oranj had been watching one of the windows from the roof of the neighbor's place, armed with some futuristic energy weapon he had designed himself. Wlonnie and I had been prepared to do psychological damage with our voices, Gen had learned tactics from her battle with the Homeworkians, and both Russian Spy and Wise Girl had been armed with a mixture of poisons and homemade bombs. In our minds, we were ready for a battle to the death with one of the creepiest, STLAKerly, disgusting human beings on the planet.
But when we burst through the door, we found Bedmas and his lady friend sitting like lazy-butts on their horrifically checkered sofa.
"Put your hands where I can see them!" Snarled Wise Girl. It seemed like she'd momentarily traded her docile little self for a rather vicious counterpart.
Bedmas and the woman slowly lifted their hands. Oddly enough, they didn't seem surprised.
"Tell us where you're keeping the STLAK satellite plans." The Eye said, keeping his voice eerily steady. "Your twisted desires are no secret to us."
"Sohcahtoa," Bedmas turned his face to the woman and smiled, hands still sky-high. "Why don't you inform our guests that this has been but a simple misunderstanding?"
Sohcahtoa faced us, her deep brown eyes representing a chalky abyss in the midst of her milky-white visage. "Children, I do believe Mr. Bedmas is right." Her voice was like bells chiming in tune with the song of demons. Unearthly, beautiful, and misleading. She paused and looked straight at the Eye. The corners of her mouth twitched before defying gravity altogether with the widest of smiles. "Are you sure that you're seeing what eye see?"
In one fluid motion, the Eye's sword fell from his hand. His eyes became wide, pained, and he clenched his jaw so tightly I was afraid he was going to break something. He fell to the ground, writhing in a silent pain, far off on some plane of agony unreachable by the rest of the Core.
"Eye!" Wlonnie yelled. She broke out of the shock for all of us. Turning to Sohcahtoa, my younger twin gritted her teeth and spat words like venom, "What did you to do him? He was fine just a moment ago!"
Sohcahtoa's snake-like smile grew even more. "Why, isn't it obvious? Look deep in your soul, darling - I'm sure you'll fine-d a clue."
It wasn't until Wlonnie screamed that I realized what was wrong. The puns. Somehow, Sohcahtoa was using one of our greatest strengths against us. What even?
Bedmas laughed on cue, as if he'd been reading my mind.
"That's right, children!" He positively chirped. "Puns. We keep tabs on our enemies. A very susceptible young informant was able to tell us just how dearly the lot of you hold these literary monstrosities. With this new piece of information, Sohcahtoa and I came together and created the most daring technological advancement known to mankind: the pun-isher." He threw back his head in overdone laughter while a forest fire roared in my veins, scorching every nerve within reach. My head become foggy, I couldn't think. All I knew was that I had to get out of here. I had to find someplace safe.
But as the fatal puns kept spilling from the lips of Bedmas and his cohort, I knew that this was a battle I wasn't going to win. Before I knew what was happening, I blacked out.

March 14-20 Empty Re: March 14-20

Post by Natarsha Fri Mar 20, 2015 5:26 pm

Side note: I must say this was not my best ending or story, I have been through a lot this week so my heart wasn't in it, my apologies :/ But I loved this prompt because I'm obsessed with superheros hah, but here it is Smile

Prompt: “Everyone is born with a superpower, but no one knows what theirs is until they are forced to use it in a life-or-death situation.”

From the age of seven I’ve been told by my fellow classmates, teachers, family members and my friends, that from the day of birth you were born with a superpower. But you don’t know what it is until you’re forced to use it in a life-or-death situation, throughout my life I’ve seen my friends found their power, I mean yeah its cool, but it’s just like “Hey, guess what I almost died yesterday and I found out my power!”

My friend Elizabeth can read minds and do mind control (Super annoying), Max can control all forms of magnetism, Lillya can turn invisible, Barry can run super-fast, and Derek can do this force field thingy, and me? Well I’m normal, I haven’t come across my power yet, because every time it’s a life-or-death situation they all save me, and I don’t know why they do but they do so it has me thinking, Do I really have a superpower? Do they know something that I don’t?

I’m 18 years old, and I haven’t found my power, “Ohh Ororo, what’s your power”, “Hey O, found your power yet?” Blah Blah Blah, It’s the same thing every day ‘Ororo’ this ‘Ororo’ that, makes me want to scream. My mum said that at the age of fourteen she got her power, and dad found his at the age of six, now there’s three days till my birthday and I’m losing all hope possible soon I will be nineteen and I would most likely not have my power, you see there’s a flaw in that story. If by nineteen you don’t have your power you are then classed as 'normal’ now that’s really rare, but as the days go by I’m starting to believe it more and more now all my friends are trying to be helpful but nothing is really working, so here I go wondering across the street begging to be hit by a car so I know my superpower, it’s a silly thought but if I’m classed as normal I will be send off to a different part of the world and I will leave everything behind, and I cannot have that, I still don’t know why my friends saved me all those time maybe it was instinct or maybe they wanted to wait till the right moment, whenever that is.

I walk up the marble stairs to the library, I find my usual spot at the back of the room and grab my favourite book and sit and read. I must of dozed off because next thing I knew the fire alarms were going off and flames were making their way up the stairs, the flaw of this library was there are no sprinklers so I was trapped in a corner surrounded by flames, oh how I wished it would rain, I looked out the window and it was sunny as ever I sighed, then just as I gave up, the flames died out by the rain cloud that was… Indoors? Does this mean I have my power? I jumped with excited as I found my power of being able to control the weather atmokinesis I thought, I’ve read about that it’s the power to control and change the weather. The fire was surely extinguished and the rain cloud disappeared, I headed outside a giant smile cast across my face, I walked out and just to test to make sure I have my power I made it snow. I was beaming with delight, I finally found my power I rushed home and told my parents how excited I was, they smiled and hugged me with delight.

I finally found my power, I thought. And it only took eighteen years.

March 14-20 Empty Re: March 14-20

You're a supergenius-level robotics expert. Your neighbor is a godlike magician. You use your abilities solely to prank each other.

“Good morning Horace” said Albert, while reaching into his mailbox.
“Morning Albert” replied his neighbor, as he collected his paper.
They looked at each other, then quickly turned away and walked back into their houses. That is if you could call them houses. Albert’s dwelling was a pile of storage crates covered in broken electronics and bits of junk. Horace on the other hand lived in a tower, with window openings that revealed nothing of the inside.
To Albert’s annoyance, today’s mail was not from his second cousin twice removed as the address claimed. Rather his mail contained a gift from his neighbor, the gift being purple dust that flew out of the envelope and turned his vision yellow.
‘Great’ he thought, ‘now I can’t see the difference between red and blue wires’. But all the yellow got him thinking of bees and the mystery of their ability to fly. He pulled out a laptop and began slowing down videos of bees flying (which was very hard to follow due to the screen being all yellow). By 11 o clock he had solved the mystery of bee wings. By lunch time he had made his own robotic bee wings. By 4 o clock he had finished programming his creation; it could avoid walls, take pictures and most importantly, it could annoy his neighbor. By dinner there was a swarm of robotic bees flying around his shack.
Albert rubbed his eyes, the effects of yellow vision finally wearing off. “Now to see what Horace is brewing” said Albert as he pressed the space bar on his computer, sending the bees through those mysterious windows. Pictures of the magician’s tower rapidly began appearing on his screen. Some rooms were too bright to see much, others where to dark. Some rooms had liquids boiling, others had solids cooling. One room had objects floating around; another had nothing in it at all. Eventually he began receiving pictures of the magician; at first he was casually pouring a brown substance into a cauldron while chatting with his magic mirror. Then he was swatting at the bees. But the bees were too quick, they buzzed around and around poor Horace until he upset his own cauldron, which melted the floor. Horace then lost his temper; he grabbed a jar of lightning and began electrocuting the bees until they were all broken.
Albert leaned back in his swirly chair laughing. Another day had transpired between Albert and Horace.
