Here is this week's challenge! You have to use the characters you made from the last challenge and write a 600-word paragraph about them. They can be doing whatever they please, but make sure that their actions fall into the category of their everyday life. But just wait, there's a catch! This challenge is meant to strengthen your DESCRIPTIVE writing. There can be no dialogue (talking) in the story you submit. Have fun! c:

Okay soo... This is really really short and kinda bad but its been a really interesting and stressful week so I apologize, But here it is anyway.

The silence in the observatory was creepy, it made me wonder why it was so silent, I mean normally there was some sort of noise. I got up from my work bench and walked to my radio to drown the silence that echoed around me, once the silence had been well silenced and replaced with noise I go back to my desk and set up my telescope for the meteor shower that occurs tonight. ‘A one in a kind meteor shower’ the headline read. I laugh. Journalists, they really do know nothing. I walk outside and straight into the pitch black darkness the only light to be seen was from the moon, I set up the telescope to watch the ‘one in a kind meteor shower’.

So sorry if this is really bad =/

A Day In The Life

Honey Drew a long hot bath for herself after a long day of classes. After her bath she dried her hair and put it in a messy bun, grabbed some chocolate, a cup of tea, her book, and a large sweater. She curled up in her big bed and settled in to read for the night. Around nine Honey took a long walk in the park, in her bath robe and pink plaid pajama’s and looked at the stars, the moon was half full and it was just peeking in like a half done up button just waiting to be pushed in. Clouds started to gather and it looked as if rain was going to fall. She sat down on the dewy grass with her back against a tree trunk, she closed her eyes and imagined for a moment that she was back in her old house. Her parents were yelling and shouting over top her head, as if she wasn’t there. Honey crept away to her little tiny room, and lay down on her creaky bed and sobbed and wished she had a normal life like all the other little girls at school. She could hear her father slurring words together and staggering around the kitchen, he was obviously drunk again. Honey felt hot tears rolling down her soft cheeks she didn’t bother to brush them away, she slowly got up and walked back towards the dormitory before it started to rain. As she reached her door the soft cool raindrops were already beginning to fall softly from the darkness above. She crawled into her bed once more, which was still warm, she snuggled under the warm covers and listened to the raindrops our down more and more and she dreamed thousands of people were clapping, for her, the most famous architect in the world.
Honey stirred to her roommate making breakfast, she lay back in the covers and groaned, not wanting to get up from her cosy bed. She made herself get up and open up the curtains, the sunlight streamed in from the window. She went into the kitchen where her roommate was finishing a hurried breakfast and leaving for her early morning classes, neither spoke but they both looked at each other and smiled as she entered the room. Honey made a pot of coffee and pancakes, she had no classes until the late afternoon, that’s what Honey loved about Friday’s she had hardly any classes. After her breakfast Honey went for a walk in the community garden and looked at her little plot and began to weed the small bed of flowers and vegetables growing together. She planted a few seeds she had with her in her purse and watered them with her water bottle. She hurriedly walked to class because she had lost track of time. She reached the classroom right on time. She wiped her dirty hands on her jeans and took a seat.

Strange how I can never remember my dreams, I remember, remembering them a few seconds ago and now they’re gone from my head. How unfortunate, I shall have to write them down next time. Now to get some cloths on, I love wearing a copy of the same suit every day, it’s funny how no one notices. I do love this suit; I first saw it on a trip to Italy and had them tailor me seven of them, one for each day of the week. Not that I follow that schedule, but it was a good idea. Most suits take a while to get comfy in, but not this one, it just fits me so perfectly. People probably think I look ridicules in it, but too bad for them, I’m the Prime Minister and I’m aloud to dress in a silly suit.
I don’t even know what this is, it’s like oatmeal and cake mixed. It’s delicious; I wish my cook made this for me every morning. Now I shall take a look at the news while I eat. I have a worker dedicated to collecting all the news that would be of importance to me; which I study every morning over breakfast. Today the news says our crime rate has gone up due to a number of organized gangs sprouting in various cities. The best way to deal with organized gangs is with intelligence agencies; however ours is currently occupied in protecting our own secrets as well as providing me with Intel on the Syrian war. The best action to take would be to temporarily enhance our intelligence agency so it can deal with this problem. Let me check my computer. I love my computer; it was made using a custom operating system in order to baffle hackers as well as being coated in an explosion proof case. So it looks like 10 million dollars invested into the intelligence agency should begin to deal with our gang problem. Our budget can easily handle 10 million, I think this will work. Next step is to send my idea to one of my most trusted men Basir; his job is to calculate the approval effects of all my projects. After about two hours of research he will inform me of how each ethnic group in my country will react to my idea.
I see it is already 7:46; I need to make my way to my office to make a deal with the CEO of I.S.E.M. We are currently trying to implement new food stickers which slowly change colour as the food goes bad. I know that sound expensive, but the Japanese have invented a way to cheaply manufacture these food stickers. I.S.E.M. has bought the rights to manufacture the stickers here in Malahivia, so I must negotiate how much the government will be paying for them. The funniest part of this deal is that I happen to be the CEO of I.S.E.M. and I have already negotiated with myself how much the stickers will cost. So all I have to do is sit in my office and smoke for 2 hours.

September 26 - October 3 Empty Re: September 26 - October 3

Run. That was all I could think of. Just run. Away from this world where nothing made sense, away from these people who were chasing me; just, away. I panted with exertion as I struggled to turn the corner of the slippery dirt road. The other two people were already in front of me, waiting at the stairs. I slid my way over to them, and started following upwards. Suddenly, he shouted for me to close the stairs with the wire-mesh gate. I scrambled back down a few steps, and struggled to latch the gate before they found us. I fumbled with the latch, wasting precious seconds…

They were here. I froze, hiding beside the wall-railing, praying they wouldn’t find us. He whispered for me to follow him up the stairs, and I did without questioning. She was already up here, waiting for us. I didn’t look back down to see if they had seen us. Calmly, we walked across the plateau, catching our breath. Safe; I was safe. For now.

We walked along the school hallway, searching for him in the various classrooms. He said he’d be here, but where? I was starting to get worried; if we didn’t find him, how would I get away? Back to where I belong? She started walking down another hallway, and I followed her. We entered a classroom and tried to mingle with the students, pretending we belonged with the rest of them. I was sure everyone could tell I didn’t belong here… I had lost sight of her, and was now on my own. Sick of the whispering students, I walked back out into the hallway. There she was, and so was he! I hurried over to them. They were exchanging phone numbers, in case we got separated again. I held out my phone as well, ready to program his number into it. I never got the chance, because they had found us. He grabbed my hand and we ran down the hallway. I didn’t know where she would go, or what she would do, but she can take care of herself; I was sure of that.

We turned the corner, and almost ran into a group of teachers and students. Hopefully they would run into them, too, and buy us some time to get out of here. He had dropped my hand and started to get ahead. I could still see his head bobbing in the crowd in front of me, and followed as close as I could. The front doors began to loom in front of us; he pushed the door and soon we were out. Free.

We walked silently along the road by the lake. No one was chasing us; at least, not yet. He had his head down, probably lost in thought. I didn’t want to break the peaceful silence, so we continued on, neither saying anything. The silence didn’t last for very long, though… Looking behind me, I saw they had found us and were rapidly giving chase. I alerted him, but he had a problem of his own; there was another group in front of us. We were trapped. There was nowhere to go. I frantically looked around for an escape, but there was none. Unless…

I grabbed his hand and he looked at me. I nodded grimly, and we both jumped into the lake.
It was quiet. Very quiet. And not as cold as I had expected. I had lost my grip on his hand, but that was ok; he was just in front of me, upside down. Silver bubbles escaped from the sides of my mouth; they looked so pretty… I breathed out a little, just to see the bubbles again. He shook his head; he had a worried look in his eyes, mixed with something else… another emotion I couldn’t quite place…

He was still semi-upside down. The water made his blond hair dance around his head. I smiled. He looked so… Dashing? Charming? Handsome? One of those. Or maybe all of those.

Bubbles whirled around my face again. Blackness was pulling at the corners of my vision. I started to close my eyes, the smile still on my face…

                                      ***

I bolted upright, gasping for air. I grasped at my blankets, pulling them to my chest. My blankets… I thought. I looked around; I was still in bed. It was all a dream. I exhaled, and lay back down on the pillow. I stared at the ceiling; there was no way I was getting back to sleep, no matter how tired I was. I swung my legs out from under the blankets and tiptoed over to the window. Pulling apart the curtains, I looked outside. It was early morning, probably just after dawn. I leaned over the window sill and propped my head up with my hands. It looked beautiful out there.

I quickly got dressed and tiptoed downstairs. I pulled on a sweater, since it would be a bit chilly out, and grabbed an apple before heading out the door. The air was crisp and cool; just the way I liked it. The gravel crunched under my shoes, and I headed toward the barn. The animals would just be waking up, so I wouldn’t need to feed them yet. The barn door opened with a groan, and I strained my eyes to see in the gloom. Somewhere, a goat bleated. I chuckled quietly. Probably Tally, wanting her grain already. I stepped inside and walked over to the storage bins. I grabbed a handful of grain then walked over to Tally’s stall. She gently nibbled the kernels out of my hand and butted me for more. I scratched her behind the ears, and walked back to the door. I grabbed my bow and closed the creaking door behind me. The animals can wait an hour. This is my time.

Practicing my archery in the meadow was my favourite past-time. It was a chance for me to imagine myself as one of Robin Hood’s merry men, or as a wood-elf who lived freely in the forest. With every arrow, I could imagine myself hunting rabbits or a deer, or bringing down my enemies one by one. I would be chasing them, for a change. Thoughts of my dream returned to me… This was the third one in a row that he was there. Same guy, same intentions. Same people chasing me.

The arrow hit the target with a solid thunk. Almost a bull’s-eye. I sat down on the ground and lay my bow down beside my quiver. Folding my hands over my knees, I pondered my dreams.

I had always had dreams, ever since I was a little girl. Of course, back then they were about princesses and flying horses. As I grew up, though, my dreams had started to get darker. There was almost always a danger of some sort, whether it was a fire, tornado, or other natural disaster, or a stranger, or people chasing me for no apparent reason. They all felt so real, but when I woke up, they were gone. No danger anymore. Most feelings would still stay with me, but the imminent danger that I had felt during the dream had faded. And just recently, I started having dreams with this guy in them. I had no idea what all these dreams meant, or if they were connected to each other somehow. All I knew was that they were starting to get worse. Of course, having this guy in them sort of makes them better… I smiled to myself.

Taking a deep breath, I shook myself from my reverie. Then I stood up and gathered my things, and turned back towards the barn. Time to feed the animals.

After the morning chores, I went back inside to find my mother cooking breakfast at the stove. Little Amos was playing with the puppy by her feet. My mother looked up at me as the door slammed shut behind me, a pleading look in her eyes. I scooped up Amos and the puppy and sent them into the main room to play. Then I turned back to the kitchen and started to set the table for breakfast. Father came in and sat at the table, tired from harvesting wheat. Emmy and Charlotte ran downstairs, giggling and chasing each other around the table. I quickly sent them off to wash before breakfast, and helped Mother bring the food onto the table. Father picked up Amos and sat him on his knee. Emmy and Charlotte raced back into the dining area and stood quietly as Father said grace. I loaded up everyone’s plates then helped myself to some corn and hash browns as well. Emmy and Charlotte contributed to most of the conversation, with Amos breaking in with a gurgle of his own. I kept quiet and busied myself with my hash browns, being the first to finish as usual. Father soon returned to the fields, and I sent the children outside, making Emmy promise to look after Amos.

I helped Mother with the breakfast dishes and then also went outside to care for the animals again. The goats needed to be put out to pasture, and the cow needed milking.

It’s amazing how fast time flies… I thought to myself. Already the sun was high in the sky and was beating down mercilessly. Emmy and Charlotte were peering under the front porch, probably looking for the cat. Amos was nowhere in sight. I put the cow out to pasture along with the goats and went off to search for Amos.

There was one of two places where Amos could be; in the barn with the animals, or out in the fields. I quickly glanced in the barn, since it was closer, calling out Amos’ name. No reply. Sighing, I turned around a jogged over to the fields. Amos adored Father and wanted to be just like him. And he loved the big trucks that Father drove. Of course, those big trucks could hurt a little guy like him pretty bad… I quickened my pace.

I was starting to get annoyed with Emmy for not taking care of Amos like I had said… What if he gets hurt? Or worse? I bit my lip and ran faster. The fields couldn’t be that far now… How far could that little guy go?

Finally the fields were in sight. I called for Amos again and again, but still no reply. Funny, I couldn’t hear Father’s tractor either. I stopped, puzzled. Where could he be? Well, there’s no one in the fields. The tractor isn’t here, either. It must be either in the other field, or back in the shed. I turned around and walked back towards the house. I continued calling for Amos along the way. The house was now in sight, and I could see Emmy and Charlotte standing by the barn, petting the kittens. As I neared them, I asked Emmy where Amos was. She replied that she didn’t know. I rebuked her for not looking after him, but she didn’t pay much attention. I walked towards the house and opened the door. Mother was in the kitchen, again, baking a loaf of bread. It smelled delicious inside, but I didn’t let myself focus on that. Worriedly, I asked my mother if she had seen Amos. She replied, yes, he was inside napping. I breathed out a sigh of relief. Mother noticed, but didn’t cease her bread-making. She gestured for me to join her, and I did. We worked, side-by-side, mother and daughter, until the afternoon. By this time Amos was awake and restless again. Emmy and Charlotte were upstairs and wouldn’t let Amos play with them, for fear he would wreck their game.

Pretty soon it was time for lunch. It was a late lunch, because we always had a large breakfast. The meal was hurried; Father wanted to return outside and finish building the new chicken coop. After I had finished eating, I went outside to help Father with the chicken coop. We worked until it got too dark to see well, and went back inside. It would be dinnertime soon.

Dinner was our most relaxed meal. Everyone took their time, except the children who hurried off to play. Once I had finished I went upstairs to find my diary. I didn’t have many new things to write, but I could contemplate my latest dream.

Dear Diary,

Today was like any other day. I woke up early and practiced archery, then fed the animals and had breakfast. After breakfast I milked the cow and went on a wild goose chase, looking for Amos. Turns out he was inside, sleeping…

Lunch was good. I must remind Mother to make squash with brown sugar again. I helped Father build the new chicken coop. It should be done in a few days. Dinner was yummy and relaxed. Everything is as usual.

Except for my latest dream. He was in it again. I wonder who he is, or was, or is supposed to be? He always has the same motive: to protect me and help me. I don’t think I’ve seen him before; not in real life. I don’t see many people other than my family. Maybe that’ll change once school starts. Unless I have to be homeschooled again this year… Hopefully not. I won’t remind my parents.

Anyway, Diary, I should go. Emmy just came into my room and is starting to read over my shoulder…

September 26 - October 3 Empty Re: September 26 - October 3

Post by Admin Wed Oct 08, 2014 3:57 pm

Jenna rolled out of bed, slapping her obtrusive alarm as it released its volume into the confines of slumber land. Rolling out of bed, she went to go check her face in the mirror, grimacing at the unkempt monster which peered back at her with eye’s of disgust. She glanced at the clock, realizing she didn’t have time for a shower. Groaning, Jenna grabbed a comb from her bathroom counter and started making quick work of her hair. She’d have to re-apply the makeup as well, something she wasn’t overly fond of doing when being rushed early in the mornings.
Her dad shouted something downstairs about being ready for school. She quickly finished her eyeliner and threw in green contacts before running downstairs and grabbing a banana on the way to the car. Her little brother was already in the backseat, the brat was playing with some of the new Lego’s he’d received and built the day before. Her dad came behind her walking around to the other side of the car, commenting on how fast she’d gotten ready today. Jenna rolled her eyes, reaching into the glove compartment for some lavender scented body spray as her father sped off to drop her little brother at the nearby elementary. The high school was only five minutes beyond – not nearly far enough from her brother in Jenna’s opinion.
She thanked her dad once they arrived, slamming the door as he mumbled something embarrassing to her no doubt. Swinging her knapsack over both shoulders, she made for the school’s entrance. Lynwood High was a fairly large school, housing from three to five thousand students at any given time. Most the kids outside were in their own little cliques, clutching their books in front of them while talking with bright faces to others who spoke and were dressed just like themselves. Jenna didn’t care much for the other kids at school. Walking down the school hallway towards her locker, she was stopped by a nerdy looking teen around her age. His face was covered in pimples, his outfit looked like he’d been spat out of a dryer.
Jenna smiled as he babbled on about seeing her again. She could’ve sworn she’d never seen him in her life. When he took a break to breath, she seized the opportunity and told him she had to get to class, waving her fingers before continuing down to her locker. She could’ve sworn the shade of red his face went was unhealthy.
A jock strut over, leaning against the locker next to hers. She knew him as Bryan – the quarterback of the Lynwood High football team. He was saying something about getting wasted this upcoming weekend at a party being hosted by some celebrities in Hollywood. She just nodded and agreed to everything he said. Seeing her best friend come over, Bryan said his farewells and gave room for Melissa, one of the most popular girls at school. She’d once locked the teachers out of their classroom for three hours straight, and had somehow managed to pin the blame on the lousy school infrastructure. The school had later taken immediate action to repair all the faulty facilities within its confines, making Lynwood High one of the nicest schools in the district. She was of course, famous for many other reasons as well.
Melissa mentioned something about Jenna’s black ripped jeans, then began laughing hysterically. Jenna joined in, pretending she’d gotten the joke. The two of them went to their first classroom, English 12 with Mrs. Peterson. Jenna liked school, but for some reason couldn’t stand Mrs. Peterson. Maybe it was the way she frowned upon Jenna’s dress code… The two girls found their respective seats and hoped the week would go by quickly enough…
